I promised you a little review of my thoughts on Deborah Needleman's latest book, 'The Perfectly Imperfect Home.' It's a charming and informative read, and I adored all the illustrations by Virginia Johnson. Deborah covers a multitude of topics on how to create a luxurious, personal, & above all comfortable home. The table of contents includes topics such as nice lighting, cozifications, delicious scent, glamifications, and a bit of quirk ... intriguing right? I've already bought copies to gift!
She explains that in her mind, nothing beats the soft & inviting light of a table lamp. She suggests that a lamp is the perfect decorating starting point for a vignette. And it doesn't stop at table lamps, the book gives details on choosing and placing chairs & side tables, a formula for a perfectly styled sofa, a pillow 'recipe' for the bedroom, and addresses a place for tissues, remotes & other useful things.
I loved some of the language used in the book - like the term 'jollifier', a sentimental object that spreads a little joy every time you cast your eye upon it.
Another tip that resonated with me: "Every room needs at least one good antique to lend it a sense of stability."
And I love that an index of all the illustrated rooms can be found in the back! The watercolors were inspired by real-life designer rooms and this is a handy reference if you'd like to hunt for the room behind the artwork.
All in all, a fabulous book choc full of tips that I would recommend! You can purchase yours here. Happy Friday and happy 11-11-11!

I put this book on my Amazon wish list the other day - hoping that maybe someone will gift it to me for Christmas. Love those illustrations. have a great weekend!
I want this book EVEN MORE now that I've read your review! Looks like a must read!
It sounds like a very interesting book. Thanks for sharing it with us.
P.S. I finally found the time to post about your very inspiring projects in my blog today. Come over and take a look.
Have a great weekend Nancy!
This is on my wish list for sure. I'm happy to hear about all the topics it adresses. I always wonder where the pros put all the necessary but not pretty items in a space. So far I organize my remotes on a tray on the coffee table. I would rather keep them hidden in a box but I can't expect my husband to live by the rule, it just isn't practical!
She had me at hello with the watercolour illustrations- definitely on my Christmas book wishlist- thanks for the review!!!
Mine should be arriving in the mail today!! Very excited now, great review:)

Thanks for the review. I have strongly hinted that I want that book for Christmas! Linked it to my facebook page so hubby can get the hint!
Are there any photographs in there? Or are they all watercolours?
This book is on my wishlist... and now after your review, I think I'll be moving it to the VERY TOP! Do you think my family will notice? Maybe if I scratch it out and very deliberately reroute it to the top, use capital letters, and then draw arrows to it???

So excited about this book! I thought about adding it to my own Christmas wish list, but I just don't think I can wait that long...
As much as I treasure books - as they are -- I would dearly love any of those images as prints to frame on my walls :)
