I just love the look of framed art hung directly onto a bookcase! It really adds another layer of interest, don't you think? The combination of piles of glorious books and artwork is just dreamy, and I would love to try this look in my own home office. Into the inspiration files it goes!

Lovely! Has anyone tried this layered look on their own bookcases or in a project? If so I'd love to hear your tips on how to secure the frames without ruining the actual bookshelf. I was thinking maybe the 3M adhesion strips may work nicely!
Hope you have a wonderful start to your new week!

I've always loved this look but have never had such lovely bookcases to do it myself. And the 3M command strips would work wonderfully - I just blogged about my art grouping all hung with these strips on my concrete walls - heaven! :)
Nancy,
I love the look of artwork hung on bookcases. Art and books belong together, and this application adds depth and interest that is so visually appealing.
3M strips or velco tabs should work well, as long as the art piece isn't too heavy.
Have a lovely Monday, Nancy!

I am dying to to this! Looking for the perfect pieces to use!
Awesome!
I have a library and I have a couple of pictures hung, but not too many as I actually need to get to the books. I am sometimes a bit peeved by the idea that bookshelves are just decorative and not functional. I use 3M strips and they can hold up to 50lbs so pretty much anything you want to hang works.
I love the lonny image with the black chair and the red art!
These bookshelves are fabulous. Very interesting hanging art on them. I absolutely LOVE that light blue couch!!
I've got two prints on my bookcases and I love it...adds a perfect juxtaposition to the books...thumbs up from me!!
Great post! I'd never have thought of doing that such a grat little feature really adds something!
Particularly loving the mirror in the 3rd image.

Now I love books and I love art, so I guess I am going to have to try!
i have some pictures hanging up only b/c I want to SEE and GET to my books. However, just hammar a small picture hanger into the wood. A samll one can hold alot of weight and creates a small hole. It is the downward angle of the picture hanger/nail which can support the weight. I think much better then anything adhesive which will leave a mark if left up for a long time and that could fall off!

I have always loved this look. It just adds a little more interest. Sometimes just books can be a little boring. I wish I had a bookcase in my home. I would love to do this.
What kind of chairs are in the first photo?
totally agree with you - it's sheer genius. and besides, one often runs out of room!
